How to Use This Research Guide

This guide is meant to assist you in searching for foreign language literatures. It has information on how to search our library for foreign language titles, as well as selected resources for various language literatures.

Use the  green  navigation tabs for more specific resources. Each language tab on the left contains:

  • Reference material for each language's literatures

  • Selected works from each language translated into English

  • In-library locations

  • Foreign films

Information on foreign language learning is contained on its own guide.

Country information can be accessed through Europa World Plus.

Information on Linguistics is contained on its own guide.

More foreign language film titles are on the DVDs and Streaming Video guide.

Searching for Foreign Language Books

You can search for foreign language materials in our catalog using our advanced search.

  • To get to advanced search, follow the above link or go to the library homepage and click on the green magnifying glass to the right of the search bar, then on the next page click 'advanced search' on the right of the search bar.

  • at advanced search, click on the Language box and select the desired language
  • Click on the line leftmost of the search bar, initially labelled 'Title', and change that field to 'Subject'
  • Enter a subject term in the search bar; a list of general terms to use is provided below
