Tests and Measurements

Chester Fritz Library resources for tests and measurements

PsycINFO & PsycTESTS

Using PsycINFO for journal articles that include test and measure information
  • In the advanced search bar, type in the test or measurement you are looking for and limit to "TM Tests & Measures" from the "Select a Field" dropdown OR type in your topic and keep the "Select a Field" dropdown as is.
  • Add "appended" to the second search bar and limit to "TM Tests & Measures" from the "Select a Field" dropdown.

You can also limit to a specific test or measure after you have entered your search. On the left side of the search results (under refine results), find the Test & Measures section; you can refine your results to show articles that contain the selected test or measure.

Note: Adding "appended" to your search means that the results will show articles that either have the instrument included as an appendix, the items from the instrument are reported in a figure or table, or items are described in the methods section.

PsycTests is a database from the American Psychological Association. This is a comprehensive database with access to validated instruments and surveys relating to the social and psychological sciences. You can search by title, keyword, DOI, and more. For more assistance with searching in PsycTests, contact your subject librarian.

ERIC

For school counselors or those working with children and young adults, you can find descriptions of measures and, in some cases, the actual measure, in the education database ERIC (link below).

  • Enter your keyword(s) in the first search box, e.g., depression.
  • In the next search box type, (test* or measure* or questionnaire* or scale* or survey* or assessment*) and appendedand select Abstract from the pull-down menu to the right.

A specific test name can be substituted for keywords in the first search box as well.

Dissertations and Theses

Pro tip: Dissertations can be rich sources of information about tests, measures, and instruments other graduate students have used and you can often find the instrument in the appendix. In ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (linked below), search by keyword or title of the instrument.

To find tests or measures in the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses database, type in test* OR measure* OR questionnaire* OR scale* OR survey* and select "Document text - FT" from the dropdown to the right of the search bar. In the second search bar, type in your keywords and limit to "Abstract - AB" from the dropdown. The test, scale, or measure will most likely be in the appendix of the dissertation.
