Scalar

What is Scalar?

Scalar is a open source, web-based publishing software created by the University of Southern California's Alliance for Networking Visual Culture that allows users to create online publications, or Scalar "books". Scalar's structure allows for flexible interactivity in the author's construction of each page. Scalar allows for in-depth collaboration and can be used for student research projects, class-produced research guides, as well as OERs (Open Educational Resources).

Examples of Scalar uses:

  • Archival Research Guides
  • Collaborative Class Presentations
  • Digital Anthologies
  • Digital Documentaries
  • Reports
  • Single & Multi-Authored Research Projects
  • Textbooks
