As a student, it is a great idea to start reading about your potential industry and job sooner rather than later.
For one thing, you're presumably already interested in it in some way--and there are great resources out there for learning more, that you may not be aware of from sources like Reddit, YouTube, or other social media. These are resources that professionals use, and by tapping into them you can learn what's important earlier. From a totally practical standpoint, this can help with interviews, finding class project ideas, and all the other times it helps to be knowledgeable (i.e., most times).

Professional Organizations
- AIAA Student MembershipsThe American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics is the leading professional organization for scientists and engineers in aerospace. Members have access to scholarships, a magazine, design competitions, and more. Current student membership cost is $30 per year.
- AUVSI memberships at UNDAnyone with a UND email address can, for free, join AUVSI, the leading organization for UAS researchers, businesses, and pilots. There are lots of local networking opportunities, newsletters, online information, and other resources. On this page, your organization is "University of North Dakota," and if you're a student you can put "student" as your job title.
- Vertical Flight SocietyThis society offers its members networking opportunities, scholarships and educational programs, technical information, and more. Student memberships are $25.
