Prevention Institute

Tools within the Toolbox are materials and resources public health professionals and other external stakeholders can use to inform and improve their work in the promotion and advancement of public health objectives. Current examples of tools include, but are not limited to case examples, presentations, fact sheets, drills, evaluations, protocols, templates, reports, and training materials.

Scorecard on Local Health System Performance provides U.S. communities with comparative data to assess the performance of their health care systems, establish priorities for improvement, and set achievement targets. It tracks 43 indicators spanning four dimensions of health system performance: access, prevention and treatment, costs and potentially avoidable hospital use, and health outcomes.

This site, sponsored by the Office of Minority Health, offers the latest resources and tools to promote cultural and linguistic competency in health care.

From the Migration Policy Institute. The data tool draws on the most recent one-year estimates of the US Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS), examining four sets of immigration characteristics in the United States – demographic and social, language and education, workforce, and income and poverty. And, it also provides 1990 and 2000 decennial Census data, giving a handy snapshot of how immigration has evolved.

Monograph series from Center for International Rehabilitation Research Information and Exchange

Health literacy for ESOL learners’ situations, with recommendations and case studies. It describes health literacy considerations for specific populations, identifies health literacy stakeholders, outlines the relationship between health literacy and EL/Civics, and proposes future steps.
