Keywords/Keyimages in Graphic Medicine: A book talk

Lisa Diedrich (Stony Brook University) and Briana Martino (Simmons University)

Tuesday, April 22, 2025 12:00 - 1:30 pm Central

In this talk, Lisa Diedrich and Briana Martino introduce and reflect on the field of graphic medicine through a discussion of their forthcoming edited collection, Keywords/Keyimages in Graphic Medicine. Diedrich and Martino have coined the term keywords/keyimages to capture what is unique about the comics form. The book includes contributions from comics artists, scholars, and health practitioners. The interdisciplinary and multimodal project shows how graphic medicine bridges academia’s siloed medical and liberal arts campuses. Thus, the book provides a resource for teaching and research in many fields: medicine, nursing, and other allied health professions, medical and health humanities, disability studies, art, visual cultural studies, media and communication studies, and comics studies.

Registration is closed.
