Chemical Engineering Plant Design Handouts

The handout and PowerPoint from the class session on information resources for your chemical engineering plant design project:

Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index

CEPCI (Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index) is available in each print issue of Chemical Engineering. The last page of each issue is devoted to Economic Indicators (CEPCI, Current Business Indicators, Consumer Price Index, and Current Trends, an overall look at how the CEPCI has changed in the recent months).

Chemical Engineering (magazine) is available on the 1st floor of Chester Fritz Library in the periodicals area, call number TN 1 .M45. (We do have Chemical Engineering online, however, the online version does not offer the CEPCI for free; the data requires an individual subscription.)

Are you a distance student?  You may request this information through InterLibrary Loan (ILL).

Chemical Prices

For current chemical prices in small quantities, search for the chemical in the Sigma Aldrich's online catalog. For bulk pricing and historical data, refer to the resources below.

Use this library database to find chemical information, including chemical properties and reactions.

Note: If you haven't used SciFinder before, first you will need to register on campus. Once you are logged in:

  1. On the left under "Substances," select "Substance Identifier."
  2. Type in the name of a substance, such as calcium carbonate, and click on "Search."
  3. Click on the substance from the search results.
  4. Towards the top of the page, click on "Get Commercial Sources." You will notice this page also gives you the option to "Get reactions" and view other chemical property information for the selected substance.
  5. The search results will list prices and quantities for the substance from commercial suppliers.
