What is PICO? PICO stands for:

• P – Populations/People/Patient/Problem
• I – Intervention(s), Exposure, Prognostic Factor (treatment, diagnostic test, risk factor, etc.)
• C – Comparison (implicit or explicit)
• O – Outcome of interest (positive or negative)

PICO forms the foundation for quality searching and answering your research question. A well-formulated question will help you craft a strong search strategy to find relevant literature for your research.
