Tools to Use When Deciding Where to Publish

The following resources should be used when deciding where you would like to publish your manuscript. These are listed in order of importance/use, but there may be other tools available depending on your topic or specialty. As always, contact your librarian for more assistance.

Jane (Journal / Author Name Estimator)
Search for journals that might be interested in publishing your article. "To help identify high-quality journals, JANE now tags journals that are currently indexed in MEDLINE, and open access journals approved by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)."
Journals that accept Case Reports
For case reports, check this listing of available journals provided by Open Science Framework (OSF). You can enter your topic in the search bar at the top and discover journals that may accept your case report.
Instructions to Authors
These pages provide links to websites which provide instructions to authors for over 6,000 journals in the health and life sciences. All links are to "primary sources" - that is, to publishers and organizations with editorial responsibilities for the titles. Allows users to investigate the journals they have identified to see if the aim/scope, audience and type of manuscript match what the journal generally publishes.
Journal Citation Reports
Weighs and ranks journals by a number of criteria including total cites and Impact Factor. You can search for a specific journal or browse by subject categories. Our subscription covers 2010 to the present (delayed 1 year). Contact a librarian if you'd like help using this resource.
