Where should my data go?

In order to preserve your research data for further use you can deposit it in a data repository. If your discipline already has a repository, it will likely be the place best suited to accommodate your data needs. If there is no obvious discipline repository available you can search for appropriate repositories by looking through a data registry or directory. You can also deposit your data in UND's institutional repository, UND Scholarly Commons. re3data.org
re3data.org is a global registry of research data repositories that covers research data repositories from different academic disciplines. With over 1500 data repositories, it is currently the most comprehensive registry of data repositories available online.

Data Repositories

ICPSR
ICPSR, the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research is a non-profit, membership-based data archive located at the University of Michigan. The University of North Dakota’s membership allows students, staff, and faculty to access ICPSR data files and documentation for the purpose of academic research. ICPSR offers more than 500,000 digital files containing social science raw research data for political science, economics, public history, and many other fields. The data available through ICPSR are raw, unanalyzed data which require statistical analysis. Distance users requiring access should contact Brittany Fischer.
Figshare
Figshare is a free cloud-based service for researchers to upload their data for discovery and access. It accepts figures, datasets, images, and videos and allows the publication of null results. Storage is restricted to 20 GB of private space.
GenBank
GenBank is the NIH genetic sequence database, an annotated collection of all publicly available DNA sequences. It accepts mRNA or genomic sequence data directly determined by the submitter.
NCEI
NCEI, the National Centers for Environmental Information provide acquisition, processing, quality control, archival, and distribution services for marine environmental and ecosystem data.
