The Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID ID) is a free, persistent, and unique 16-digit identifier that distinguishes researchers and links their professional information, affiliations, grants, and publications. Many publishers, funders, and institutions now require an ORCID under Nelson Memo guidance. Researchers maintain control of their record and can use the identifier throughout their careers.
Check if you already have an ORCID ID.
Go to the ORCID website and use the search box in the top right corner of the page (the default search is the ORCID Registry).
Register for a new ORCID ID (if you don’t already have one).
Follow the prompts on the ORCID website to create your account.
Set up your ORCID profile.
Add your professional information, such as affiliations, funding, and publications, to build out your profile.
Use a search and link tool.
Import publications directly from databases that have a connection with ORCID.
Import using a BibTeX file.
If your publications are in a database that does not yet connect with ORCID, you can export them as a BibTeX file and import them into your ORCID account.
Manually add works.
You can also enter publication details directly in your ORCID profile if needed.
