Ways to narrow your topic

1. Ask yourself these questions:

a. What Time period do you want to focus on? (i.e. time in history? time of life?)

b. What Location do you want to focus on? (i.e. geographic? area of the body?)

c. What Category do you want to focus on? (i.e. particular group of people? species? set of theories?)

d. What Issue or point of view do you wish to capture?

2. Search the literature to:

a. Brainstorm for ideas. (Are there gaps in the literature?)

b. See if your topic or idea is to broad or too narrow.

Remember, the research process is not a one way street.
