Deciding which journal to submit your manuscript to for publication is multifaceted.
Below you'll find links to resources that might help you with your decision. But also, don't be afraid to ask for advice! Talk to your colleagues, advisors/mentors, librarian, etc.
Suggested order of searching (additional sources and details below):
- Country of Papers or Journal Citation Reports - Identify journal titles in the subject area
- JANE - Journal Author Name Estimator - input a PICO, abstract or subject keywords to see which journals match using an algorithm
- Instructions to Authors - investigate the journals you have identified to see if the aim/scope, audience and type of manuscript match what the journal generally publishes.
- Country of PapersCountry of Papers is a non-curated website allowing publishers to self populate information about a journal based on criteria such as impact factor, days to acceptance, days to publication, etc. A cautionary note: While it is one place to search for a listing of possible journals for publication, publishers input this information so it is good to verify through another source.
- Journal Citation Reports This link opens in a new windowThe Journal Citation Reports weighs and ranks journals by a number of criteria, including total cites and the Impact Factor. You can search for a specific journal in JCR or browse by subject categories. Our subscription covers 2010 to the present (delayed 1 year). Contact the library if you'd like help using this resource.
- JANE This link opens in a new windowJane is a search engine that you can use to come up with journals that might be interested in publishing your research. It works by matching words from your abstract or author-supplied keywords to the millions of records in PubMed/MEDLINE.
- Instructions to AuthorsThese pages provide links to Web sites which provide instructions to authors for over 6,000 journals in the health and life sciences. All links are to "primary sources" - that is, to publishers and organizations with editorial responsibilities for the titles.
- Springer Nature Journal SuggesterSpringer Nature Journal Suggester journal matching technology searches all Springer and BMC journals to find the most suitable journal for your manuscript relevant journals based on your manuscript details.
