It's Open Access Week and we're ready to party! 🥳 To celebrate the UND community's embrace of open access publishing, UND Libraries have created art displays showcasing ways UND researchers have shared their work with the public. Whether it's depositing open access versions of their research to the UND Scholarly Commons or incorporating open education into their class assignments, UND researchers have done incredible work to ensure the public has access to their scholarship. Stop by the Chester Fritz Library between October 20th - 26th to view these displays in person!
Inspired by 2025's Open Access Week theme of "Who Owns Our Knowledge?", librarians at the Chester Fritz Library asked: Who's Sharing Their Knowledge? Name that Scholar highlights faculty and librarians who've chosen to make their work openly available on UND's institutional repository, the UND Scholarly Commons. The size of each name correlates to the number of publications, OERs, or datasets each author has posted on the Commons.

Interested in making your name stand out next year? Join us for our celebration of open on October 20th to see the display in person and ask a librarian for information on how to deposit your work on the UND Scholarly Commons. We're always happy to help UND practice open!
Teaching in the Open showcases how UND faculty use the UND Scholarly Commons to incorporate open pedagogy into their syllabi. Sometimes known as 'renewable assignments', these class works are made publicly available to facilitate ongoing reuse. Each icon represents a different assignment openly available on the Commons -- from ART 211's Art Audio Guides to PSYC 303's Science Communication Papers. They are aligned with the y-axis to show the total number of each assignment currently available on the Commons.

Would you like to incorporate a renewable assignment into your classroom? Have a chat with a UND librarian during our celebration of open on October 20th. We're happy to talk about pedagogy, open licensing, or digital publishing any time!
