General Rules

General rules:

  • All items should have a slip attached with the date it was placed in lost and found
  • All items should be recorded in LibStats
    • If there was a name, that should go in the stats as well
    • record if the person was emailed
  • When a person comes in for an item, check LibStats
    • Update in the answer field that it was claimed

Purses, Wallets, Billfolds and Bags of Any Kind

  • There must be two people; one has their back to the desk
    • One person does not touch the items - they only record the information
  • Every item must be recorded. Every gum wrapper, every movie stub, every receipt - everything
    • The second person methodically goes through the item, quietly listing every item (including the item itself)
  • If an ID is found, the person is contacted

Personal Books

If a book does not belong to the library, and has no markings to indicate it belongs to another library

  • record it in LibStats
  • put a note on it with a date
  • place it on the shelf in interfiling that faces the oversize books
  • it stays back there for 3 weeks (sometimes more), then
    • update the note in LibStats that the item is being removed
    • give it to Laura Egan in the administration office for review if it should be added to the collection

Clothing

  • Record in LibStats
  • Attach a slip of paper with the date, your initials, and libstat number
  • Put in the bottom drawer under the Access Services front desk computer

Electronics & Other Valuable Items

These depend on value.

  • Front Desk lost & found
    • Small calculators
  • Locker
    • Advanced function calculators
    • keyboards
    • computers
    • cameras
    • phones
  • Office
    • Anything that goes in the locker will be taken to the office on the next business day
