Pulling books involves moving books from the Interfiling onto trucks.
- Make sure tags are on your LEFT when you face the truck.
- Spines of books will face you as they fill the truck.
- Make sure books are pulled in call number order - see a supervisor for explanation.
- Top shelf of the truck must be 2/3 to full.
- Note: if you are pulling Dewey books, it might be better to do about half.
- 2nd shelf should be completely full or left empty.
- If Interfile is full or there are few trucks left, the 2nd shelf SHOULD be filled as well as the first.
- Change the pocket tag to "Check"
- Add a Truck Tag so we know who pulled it.
- If none are available, extras may be printed from the General Files section in Teams
- Place the truck in front of the island with 1 carpet square of difference between the truck and the island.
Checking books will be done with an extra step while someone is in training.
- Make sure books are in call number order.
- Make sure all three edges of books have a visible "Chester Fritz Library" stamp on them.
- UNLESS THIS IS A BAKER & TAYLOR BOOK – do not mark these books in any way
- Flip through pages for garbage, ripped pages, loose pages.
- Scanning each item into ALMA, make sure that the book has the note “Item in place”, and that the call number in ALMA matches the one on the book.
- If there are any Issues:
- Simple issues that impact the ability to read a book – Leave an appropriate note under “Fulfillment notes”
- Issues impacting the structural integrity of a book – Create a work order and place the book on the mending shelf in access services
- In the Truck Spotting document, record initials and dates through the “Checking” step. Record the number of items, as well as three call numbers (near the beginning, middle, and end of the truck – not exact). Assign a truck number and write that number on the truck tag.
- Final step
- If you are new / in training - change the pocket tag to "Recheck" and park the truck next to the coat rack.
- If you are beyond training - change the pocket tag to "Needs Shelving" and park the truck by the door to the department.
