    • Or use your NDUS account ID and password
  • Scan your item's barcodes under the kiosk (where the red line appears)
    • Use the skinny barcode that starts with 331, not the large block barcode on the back of books
  • Once finished scanning
    • Note your due date on the screen

Troubleshooting the MeeScan kiosks (self check)

  • A patrons' card won't swipe?
    • Did they remember to tap "start before swiping"
    • Make sure the card is oriented correctly. The magstripe needs to be facing to the right when they swipe.
  • Getting Access to the iPad
    • In order to get out of MeeScan you would need to triple-click the Home button. It's accessible only through a pinhole on the front. You can push it using an unbent paperclip or similar. If you need one of these there is a pink paperclip attached to a note inside the grey locker by the access desk, there are also several stuck to a magnet on top of the radiator behind Will Martin's desk in the systems office.
    • Once you have triple clicked the Home button, enter the code 597012 and tap "End" in the top corner. Now it will act as a normal iPad.
    • When you are done, you can restore Guided Access (the setting that keeps people locked into the MeeScan app) by starting the UND Libraries app and then triple-clicking the home button once again.
  • No internet connection
    • The iPad should connect to the network UND Guest network. It is whitelisted, and should not prompt you to log in.
    • If it not connecting, or prompting for login, open the Settings, go to Wi-Fi, and select the UND Guest network. Make sure that the setting called Private Address is turned off in the info section (i) of the selected WiFi network. This option is designed to make the iPad's owner harder to track from one Wi-Fi access point to the next; in our case, all it does is break our connection. Make sure it's turned off.
    • If the connection is still not working, try rebooting. If it's still not working after that, try calling UIT.
  • Rebooting the iPad
    • Ordinarily you would do this with the power button, but it's inaccessible due to the kiosk enclosure. Use the following steps to reboot:
    1. Tap Settings.
    2. Tap Accessibility
    3. Tap Touch.
    4. Turn on AssistiveTouch. This will put a "virtual button" on the screen.
    5. Tap the virtual button to open a menu.
    6. Tap Device
    7. Tap Restart
      • Wait for the iPad to reboot. Once it's done, you need to turn the virtual button so that the general patron can't use it. Go back to Settings > Accessibility > Touch and turn off AssistiveTouch.
  • Guided Access
    • To lock the iPad into the UND Libraries (meeScan) app
      • Once you are done working, start the UND Libraries app an triple-click the home button. That will restart the Guided Access feature that locks people into this app.
      • Click "Finish"

Computer Lab

We have a plethora of both Dell and Apple computer systems in the second floor computer lab, in addition we also have a monitor that allows patrons to plug in their own personal laptop. They can then operate their laptop from the desktop monitor. A computer mouse is not included in this set-up, however patrons can check out a mouse from the Tech & Tools section.
