Westlaw Patron Access: Researching a Legal Issue

To Search for Documents, Follow These Steps:

1. Type search terms describing your issue in the text box

2. Click the arrow in the jurisdiction selector to choose which federal or state jurisdiction you wish to search in

3. Click Search

4. Filter results as desired

Selecting a Jurisdiction

Use the drop-down menu to select which jurisidiction you wish to search in (up to 3.) E.g., North Dakota, Minnesota, and/or federal.

Filtering Results

Westlaw runs each search across 13 content categories and you can use post-search filters to view only one document type at time. Most researchers are interested in Cases, Statutes, and Secondary Sources.
