PIIE is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank founded in 1981 by economist and intellectual entrepreneur C. Fred Bergsten. PIIE is ranked as the 15th most influential think tank in the world, out of more than 6,500, by the Go-To Think Tank Rankings. PIIE is dedicated to the idea of an open international economic system with mutually beneficial economic exchanges, free trade, flexible exchange rates, and free capital movements. The institute covers the full spectrum of international economic policy issues: global macroeconomics, international money and finance, trade and social issues, energy and the environment, and investment and domestic adjustment measures. Its current research agenda has special emphases on the international financial and economic crisis, globalization and the backlash against it, world current account imbalances and currency relationships, the creation of an international regime to address global warming, and the major emerging economies (China, India, and Russia). PIIE is excellent for global economic policy issues.
